Creative Commons Licenses (CC)
Creative Commons (CC) licenses provide a standardized legal framework that allows authors to define how their work may be used, shared, and reused by others under copyright law. The presence of a Creative Commons license clearly informs readers and reusers what they are permitted to do with a published work.
Creative Commons offers several license options, ranging from more restrictive to more permissive. These licenses differ in terms of whether commercial use is allowed, whether adaptations are permitted, and whether derivative works must be shared under the same terms.
Choice of License for This Journal
Under its current open-access publishing model, Biointerface Research in Applied Chemistry publishes scholarly articles under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license.
Historical articles remain subject to the copyright and licensing terms applicable to them at the time of publication, unless the relevant rights holder has subsequently authorized additional reuse rights.
This license has been selected because it provides the greatest benefit to authors and the research community, while fully supporting open science principles.

The applicable copyright and license information associated with an individual article should be regarded as authoritative for that article.

Under the CC BY 4.0 license, users are free to:

For articles published under the journal’s current open-access model, authors retain copyright to their work and agree to license the published article under CC BY 4.0. Authors must confirm that they own or control the rights necessary to grant this license and that any third-party material is used in accordance with applicable copyright and licensing requirements.

The CC BY 4.0 license:
- ensures maximum dissemination and impact of published research;
- allows reuse, translation, and adaptation of research outputs;
- complies with the requirements of major research funders and institutions;
- supports long-term accessibility and interoperability of scholarly content;
- places authors in full control of attribution while removing unnecessary reuse barriers.
Important Notice
Creative Commons licenses are irrevocable. Where an article has been validly published under CC BY 4.0, the rights granted under that license cannot be withdrawn from users who comply with its terms. Corrections, retractions, or other post-publication actions do not by themselves extinguish rights already validly granted under the license.
